Ellen Spertus, Mills College, Google  (Speaking on Thursday, 6/29/2006)

Dr. Spertus is an associate professor at Mills College and a part-time software engineer at Google.  Dr. Spertus teaches computer science courses including Programming Languages, Operating Systems, and Robots, Persons, and the Future.   Dr. Spertus studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology earning a BS degree in Computer Science and Engineering, an MS degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.   Dr. Spertus publishes extensively, gives talks frequently, and participates in many professional and service committees.

Deborah Volk, Sr. SE, National Accounts, Endeca Technologies Page (Speaking on Monday, 6/26/2006)

Ms. Volk is a senior member of the Technical Sales staff at Endeca Technologies, a leading Information Access Platform provider. Deborah has over ten years of experience in the high-tech industry. She was a developer/contractor for DARPA before moving in the technical aspect of enterprise software sales. She has worked at leading enterprise software companies like HNC Software, Entrust, and Thor Technologies (now Oracle).

Deborah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Bachelor of Science degrees in both Physics and Computer Science from Wofford College.


 

 

Neha Narula, Google (Speaking on Tuesday, 6/27/2005)

Ms. Narula is our youngest guest speaker.  She is a software engineer at Google where she works on a shopping product called Froogle.  Google is Ms. Narula's first employer after graduating from college.  Ms. Narula attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy for high school.  Ms. Narula has a BS degree with double majors in Mathematics and Computer Science from Dartmouth College. 


 

 

Kelly Gotllib, Tyco, Puritan Bennett (Speaking on Tuesday, 6/27/2006)

Ms. Gottlib is an embedded software engineer at Tyco Healthcare, Purita Bennett, where she is working on critical-care and sleep apnea ventilators. Kelly has a BS degree in Computer Science from the University of San Francisco where she graduated with honors. Kelly will be attending Stanford University in the Fall of 2006 to pursue a masters degree in computational engineering. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, photography and traveling.


  

    

Monica Pal, LignUp, (Speaking on Friday, 6/30/2006)

Ms. Pal brings almost 20 years of experience in technology marketing and software engineering. Monica is currently the co-founder and VP Marketing at LignUp, where she oversees both product management and marketing communications. Prior to LignUp, she oversaw strategic marketing for enCommerce, an internet security company acquired by Entrust Technologies. At Entrust, Monica managed global communications and led the re-branding of the newly merged company. Prior to enCommerce, Monica was part of Apple Computer's pioneering Collaboration Products team which developed innovative mail, messaging, directory, and security technologies including unified mailbox and single sign-on keychain capabilities. Monica holds her M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in Computer Science from Rice University in Houston, Texas.


 

 

Pooja Garg, Jet Eye, (Alumni Panelist - Thursday, 6/29/2006)
Ms. Pooja Garg came to the United States from a small town in India. Ms. Garg holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from the University of San Francisco. While at USF, Pooja worked with Dr. David Wolber on building personalized meta-search engines and systems that help with peer to peer knowledge sharing (webtop). Also while in school, Pooja worked at Internet Archive whose mission is to scan one million books to make them available online. She also interned with EmailReach as a software developer and with Thor Technologies as a marketing communications associate. Upon graduation with an MS degree, Ms. Garg went to work at Embarcadero Technologies as a Field Engineer. Pooja is currently a Lead Services Engineer at Jeteye, a social netowking system.



Cindy Zhou, 3VR, (Alumni Panelist - Thursday, 6/29/2006) Ms. Zhou is a software engineer at 3VR Security Co. Cindy graduated from USF with an MS degree in Computer Science in 2006. Cindy has technical expertise in the areas of web application and services. Cindy has worked on systems in support of global online banking, San Francisco lobbyist electronic filing, and Intelligent Video Management. Ms Zhou served as the Hardware Workshop student teacher during the 2005 USF CS Summer Enrichment Program.
