Assignment 1 - Data Exploration with Tableau - (50 points)

Due date: 8/30/2022 at 11:59pm

Objectives

  • Familiarize yourself with Tableau
  • Learn about data attributes
  • Gain experience with exploring data

In this assignment you will get familiar with using Tableau Software for data exploration and visualization. Before you get started, I encourage you to download Tableau and read Chapters 5-10 from the Practical Tableau book. While it sounds like a lot of reading, the chapters are short and reading them in conjunction with the software will make a lot of sense.

For this assignment, you are free to explore any dataset from the following repositories:

Make sure to read the descriptions of the attributes to get an understanding of the dataset. Download a few datasets and look at them before you pick one.

Using Tableau, I would like you to create a Data Exploration Report that contains the following:

  1. Title of the assignment - Data Exploration through Tableau
  2. Your Name and Student ID
  3. A link to the dataset
  4. Three findings observed from exploring data. Each of the findings must be supported through visualizations built into Tableau. Refer to the chapters linked above to learn about the various functionalities in Tableau.
  5. Extra credit: 2 points per extra findings with supported visualization evidence (up to 10 maximum points)

You can use any of Word, Google Docs, Pages, or LaTeX to work on the report, but it must be submitted in PDF format.
