Afterword
And within a few weeks of this incident, Cortes and a group of his men returned to the Temple top, removed a gold mask from one of the idols' face, and smashed it with a bar while crying "Something must be done for the Lord!" Shortly thereafter, the temples were rinsed of blood and the idols removed, never to be seen again by the Spaniards. The destruction of the temples and the Aztec Empire had begun.
