Our Gods
"You have seen for yourself many of our temples dedicated to our gods. But this Great Temple is the root and the heart of our world. Here is the manifestation of our two sacred mountains. The southern half embodies Coatepec Hill, where Huitzilopochtli defeated his opponents. And the northern side, the Hill of Sustenance, where Tlaloc reigns.

Here at this Temple is the site of our most important festivals. Perhaps you have heard of the festival of Panquetzaliztli? This festival re-enacts the battle between Huitzilopochtli and his siblings. War captives are chosen for this honor of battle. Death by the obsidian blade is accorded to the losers, as has been practiced from times most ancient. "

Their Idols
They seem to dedicate much wealth and interest towards these graven idols. There seems to be one for every aspect of human affairs, for war, for crops, for water...The jewels and gold with which they adorn them are of a workmanship not bettered in the rest of the world. And even the shrines and temples are quite pretty, in their own way. But this talk of sacrifice! And is this the sight and stench of blood on these temple steps?
