As they came,
as they went along their road, 
they were no longer received anywhere,
they were rejected everywhere,
no one knew their face.
Everywhere they were asked:
"Who are you?
From where do you come?"
Thus nowhere could they settle,
they were always thrown out,
everywhere were they persecuted.
They passed through Coatepec,
they passed through Tollan,
they passed through Ichpuchco,
they passed through Ecatepec,
thence to Chiquiuhtepetitlan.
Next, to Chapultepec
where many peoples came to settle.
And there was a kingdom in Azcapotzalco,
and in Coatlinchan,
but Mexico did not yet exist,
there still were fields of bulrushes and reeds
